After a brief hiatus, Frost Fire Park in North Dakota will reopen for skiing and riding for this upcoming winter.
The Storm Skiing Journal & Podcast reports Frost Fire Park is set to reopen for winter operations during the 2023-24 season. Last winter, the ski area didn’t open for the 2022-23 season due to mechanical issues with its snowmaking equipment. Earlier in 2022, they dealt with significant flooding, which damaged their skiing and biking trails, and ultimately their snowmaking equipment. Rather than go through a costly fixing process, they decided to focus on replacing pipes and other equipment.
In the meantime, Frost Fire Park has a multitude of activities during the summer. This includes mountain biking, a summer theatre (which is temporarily closed), an art shop, a restaurant, and yoga. The main attraction is their lift-serviced mountain biking trail network, with numerous trail features and a rental fleet.
After nearly closing for good in 2020, a local kid saved the mountain by raising $10,000 from a lemonade stand. Now, they’re developing a master plan to make Frost Fire more of a four-season destination. While it’s yet to be finalized, some of their ideas include glamping, cabins, ziplines, and an alpine coaster. It’s cool to hear comeback stories from small ski areas like this, as they are the lifeblood of the ski industry.
