Australian ski resorts were off to a slow start to the season, as Perisher and Mt. Buller opened on June 10th with minimal terrain. Since then, Australia has seen significant snowfall. This hasn’t led to a huge increase in trail counts, but it has helped more mountains open for the season. Here are the latest updates from the ski resorts in Australia.
Mt. Buller: In terms of the terrain, not much has changed as there is still only one trail open. They are currently getting a lot of snow though, so the trail and lift counts should increase in the coming days.
Perisher: In our last report, they only had a magic carpet open. Thanks to 29 cm of snowfall in the past week, they now have four trails, and seven lifts open.
Falls Creek: Opening for the season on June 16th, Falls Creek now has a snow depth of 33 cm. Three lifts are currently running, and more snow is coming.
Hotham Alpine Resort: With 52 cm of snow in the past week, Hotham opened for the 2023 season on June 16th. Two trails and three lifts are currently open.
Thredbo Resort: Today, Thredbo will become the latest Australian ski resort to open for the season. The Cruiser and Gunbarrel Chairlifts will be open for shredding, while the Merritts Gondola and Kosciuszko Chairlift will run for sightseers. As with other Australian ski resorts, more snow is on the way.
