The biggest ski resort in the Midwest is adding another new lift. Lutsen Mountains in Minnesota is spending its summer replacing the 10th Mountain Lift, a fixed-grip double chairlift. Its replacement will be the Raptor Express, a high-speed six-pack chairlift supplied by Leitner Poma. The lift will service beginner, intermediate, advanced, and expert terrain.

Last weekend, they provided the first update on the construction process for the new chairlift. The 10th Mountain chairs have been taken off the line, with the next step being the removal of the bullwheel. The parts for the Raptor Express have begun to arrive. Flagging has also begun, with the lift line, and terminals being marked.

There’s also a major expansion planned in the coming decades, so Lutsen Mountains should be on the radar for any skier or rider, no matter what coast you live on.
