Snowbird Announces June Operations Plan

Snowbird will be skiing into June, and possibly shredding in July. Yesterday, Snowbird Resort announced its operations plans for June. Currently, the Bird is open Friday-Sunday plus Holidays until Memorial Day. They currently have the Aerial Tram, Little Cloud, Peruvian Express, Peruvian Tunnel, Mineral Basin, and Baldy Express lifts open. In addition, the Woodward Mountain Park and Woodward Peace Park Championships Course have reopened for another weekend.

Once the lifts close on Memorial Day, they will shut down the mountain for a couple of weeks to do the required yearly maintenance on the tram. The ski resort is scheduled to reopen on June 17 & 18th (i.e. Father’s Day weekend).

The aerial tram, which will be open to skiers and summer guests will debut the much-anticipated rooftop balconies—the first and only of their kind in North America. This balcony will give breathtaking 360-degree views of Little Cottonwood Canyon and will be able to fit up to fourteen people. Access to the roof will be an add-on purchase from the traditional tram ticket. Whether other lifts will be open for Father’s Day weekend has yet to be determined.

After that, Snowbird will go week by week to determine if they can keep skiing and riding into the summer. Their hope is to be open for the Fourth of July weekend. The issue is that Utah has seen warm weather over the past couple of weeks. It’s time to start praying to the whale again.

“This season has been exciting, complex, and record-breaking by all accounts,” said Snowbird President and General Manager Dave Fields. “Not only have we seen incredible amounts of snow on the mountain, but significant melting as spring progresses. Conditions on the mountain change not only weekly, but daily. While we feel it’s too soon to promise we will be skiing and riding on the Fourth of July, we certainly hope that will be the case.”
