Snow Returns to the Alps as Easter Approaches

There has been another storm with up to 40cm of fresh snow in places. Winter isn’t over, not by a long way.

The forecast has proved to be correct with some decent Spring snowfalls in some of the main French resorts like Val d’Isere and Val Thorens.

There’s also been falls  in Verbier, Switzerland and further east into the Tirol in Austria.

At the weekend the snow and limited visibility in Verbier and meant the finale of the freeride World Tour, the Verbier Extreme, had to be postponed.

Here’s why.

It is hoped the event can take place once the current storm passes and conditions are judged to be safe.

Here’s the situation in Val Thorens.

PlanetSKI will be in Les3Vallees later this week with our chief reporter, Jane Peel, taking part in the Enduro event.

And lets not forget Austria where snow has also fallen.

The fresh snow will bring some good skiing and snowboarding to the higher altitude areas in many parts of the Alps.

All eyes will now be on the temperatures to see if the snow stays or if it thaws.

More to follow….
