New Utah Ski Resort Could Have Ban On Snowboarders

Utah’s newest ski resort, the Mayflower project, could ban snowboarders.

The Park Record reports that on Monday night, Leadership Park City hosted a panel discussion with Utah ski industry leaders. The panel included Todd Bennett (President and Chief Operating Officer of Deer Valley), Deidra Walsh (Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Park City Mountain Resort), Nathan Rafferty (Ski Utah President and CEO), and Ralf Garrison (a travel industry veteran). I tuned in virtually on Zoom for the event and really enjoyed learning how this season is going in Park City.

The big news from the event was involving the Mayflower project, a new ski resort that is aiming to open during the 2024-25 season. Todd Bennett said that Deer Valley remains in discussion to operate the Mayflower ski resort, but the deal has not been finalized yet. If this does happen, these trails and lifts would be integrated into Deer Valley’s already expansive skiable acreage, making it more like a large expansion rather than a new ski resort.

Also discussed was whether snowboarders will be allowed. If Deer Valley operates the area, Todd Bennett said that the snowboarding ban would be banned in this area as well. It’s not particularly surprising, as Deer Valley is one of the few ski resorts in North America that ban snowboarders from riding the lifts. If Deer Valley/Alterra doesn’t end up operating Mayflower, it’s very likely that snowboarders will be allowed to shred there.
