Next season, Keystone Resort will open up the Bergman Bowl to lift-serviced skiing. After some roadblocks, the new terrain pod is set to open during the 2023-24 season. The Bergman Bowl, which will be serviced by a high-speed six-pack chairlift, will have beginner, intermediate, and advanced terrain.

Due to this new terrain pod, it’s time to draw a new Keystone trail map. On Wednesday, Keystone released the first of two videos detailing the passing of the paintbrush from James Niehues to Rad Smith. James Niehues, who is the legendary trail map artist that retired back in 2021, is interviewed in the video.

The video covers both Jame’s and Rad’s backgrounds, their collaborative work on the new Keystone map, and why a hand-painted trail map is superior to a digital one.

The video from Keystone Resort is below.
