Arizona Ski Resort Reopens After Snow Caused Two Day Road Closure

It’s been a snowy winter out west, which has surprisingly included Arizona. The Grand Canyon State has seen plentiful snowfall, leading to plentiful powder days at mountains like the Arizona Snowbowl and Sunrise Park Resort. So far this season, Sunrise Park has received 194″ of snow, including 34″ last week.

Due to the rapid snowfall last week, the Arizona Department of Transportation had trouble clearing HWY 260 and 273, which lead to Sunrise Park Resort. This resulted in the road and ski resort being closed for two days. Sunrise sent multiple snow groomers to clear off the two snow plows that got stuck in the snow drifts.

They reopened the road and ski resort last Friday, with the snow berms being around 10-15 feet. Snow plows had to plow the state highways again, as Sunrise got 11″ of snow in the past 24 hours. It’s a needed respite for a state that’s immensely struggled from the West Coast drought, and hopefully, the snow will keep coming.
