British Skier Dies in Meribel

The 50-year old man died in a fall while skiing in the French resort. There have been several other fatal accidents as the busy half-term period begins. NEW

The man was on holiday when he fell outside of the marked ski area.

The rescue services were called in and pronounced him dead at the scene.

The accident happened in the Saulire sector of the resort.

A police investigation is now underway and is looking at the speed he was travelling.

No further details are currently available, and we will update you when we hear more.

There have been two other fatal accidents this weekend in the French Alps:

  • A 21-year-old American died off piste in the Brevant area of Chamonix after falling 200m.
  • A 59-year old skier died in an area to the south of Megeve in the Aiguille Croche area.

The Chamonix mountain rescue were called out eight times on Sunday.
