Really cool story out of Colorado where one of the state’s snowboarding pioneers is stoked to compete an event that harkens back to the early days of the sport. News 9 reports David Riordon built his first “Ski Board” back in the 1970s with his brother in Castle Rock. In 1983 he was invited to the Burton National Snowboarding Championships in Vermont where he crashed so hard he thought his broke his arm.
40 years later, David plans on competing in the upcoming Burton Mystery Series Tour at Ruby Hill Rail Yard in southwest Denver which will celebrate the roots of snowboarding with a banked slalom downhill. David plans on competing on a snowskate but isn’t thinking he’ll get much in the way of redemption.
“My run 40 years ago was not the best, I’ll probably do about the same. This time, I’m going to ride a snow skate. It’s a skateboard on top of a single ski we call sub-deck.”
