Scary moment at the men’s World Cup super-G season opener at Lake Louise, Alberta where 34-year-old Swiss racer Mauro Caviezel briefly lost consciousness after hitting a gate and bouncing his head off the slope in the ensuing crash.
ESPN reports races were halted for 20 minutes before Caviezel managed to get on his feet. He was then taken off the course by sled and airlifted to a hospital.
This was Cavaziel’s first weekend of racing since suffering a head injury while training in Garmisch in early 2021. No reports on his current condition. We send our well wishes to Mauro and hope he is okay.
This is the crash that caused the injury in January, 2021. Again we send our well wishes to Mauro as he recovers.
