Another storm is on its way with more snow needed as winter approaches. NEW
More resorts opened in the Alps last weekend but much of it was on man-made snow despite the recent falls.
The colder temperatures have allowed for more snow to be made.
So, what does the next few days hold in store?
“Although the picture is complicated, the consensus is that most of the Alps will see at least a bit more snow falling at some point either on Monday evening/overnight and/or on Tuesday,” said the alpine weather expert Fraser Wilkin, from weathertoski.co.uk on Monday.
“The rain/snow limit will start at around 1200-1400m before lowering to 1000m or less in most places by Tuesday.
“Another weather front is set to reach the Alps on Wednesday, this time mostly affecting the northern half of the Alps, with the heaviest snow falling in the northern French Alps where there could be another 10-15cm in the likes of Tignes and Les Arcs, for example.”
It is of course only the second half of November so it is far too early to say what the winter will be like.
PlanetSKI’s Katy Dartford was in Obergurgl in the Tirol and reported on the ski area’s opening weekend of the 2022/23 season.

We have been following the snowfalls over the recent days in this earlier PlanetSKI report:
Snow has fallen down to the valley floor in Austria.

In some other parts of the Alps it has been little more than a dusting so far.

Its neighbouring resort of Val Thorens is set to open this weekend after a delayed start.
15cm of snow is predicted to fall in the next storm.

Other resorts opening away from the Alps include Kvitfjell in Norway.
PlanetSKI will be in Norway next January on a rail ski safari.
See here from Norway – Home of Skiing about what the resorts in the Scandinavian country offer:
“There have been plenty of winters of heavy snow in November with a poor season to follow,” said the PlanetSKI editor, James Cove, who is heading out to the Alps shortly.
“Equally there have been plenty of dry Novembers, that have led to a bumper season. As always we’ll just have to wait and see.”
One thing we do know is that PlanetSKI will be watching snowfalls closely and reporting back.
Here’s the state of play on resorts offering some skiing & snowboarding so far in the Alps:
Austria: Obergurgl, Kaunertal, Kitzbuhel, Soelden, Piztal, Stubai, Hintertux, Molltal, and Kitzsteinhorn.
Italy: Sulden, Cervinia and Val Senales.
Switzerland: Andermatt, Davos, Zermatt, Saas-Fee, Engelberg, Arosa/Lenzerheide and Verbier.
