The Restaurant Botta at Glacier 3000 near Le Diablerets has been gutted by fire. An investigation is underway. NEW
The fire was reported at 4.30am and three helicopters were used to take firemen to the site at over 3,000m.
The upper part of the building including the restaurant and the self-service was engulfed in flames.
The structure houses a cable car station and technical checks must be carried out on the building.
The structure opened in 2001 and cost of CHF17 million (£15.4m).
No-one was in the building at the time and the police are appealing for witnesses.
The public prosecutor has been informed and an investigation is underway.
