A meteor crashing through the Earth’s atmosphere created a sonic boom near Salt Lake City, UT last week. The sound startled residents, and a video captured by Snowbasin’s webcam has gone viral.
Hearing/seeing a meteor of this magnitude is rare, and finding a piece of one is like a needle in a haystack.
Sonny Clary of Salt Lake City found a piece of the meteor and is donating it to the University of Utah. FOX 13 News has the full story:
Props to Clary for donating his piece of the meteor so that it can be studied, he’s got more decency than I do. I would have definitely kept that hunk of space rock for myself if I had found it.
