VIDEO: Why Does The Whistler Bike Park Have So Many Bears?

It’s no secret that British Columbia has a lot of bears. Estimates actually put the number around 14,000 to 16,000 bears throughout the providence, and both of the times that I’ve been there during the summer, I saw bears from a fairly close (and uncomfortable) distance.

The Whistler Mountain Bike Park, however, definitely seems to stand out from the rest of the providence, if not the rest of the world, when it comes to bear interactions (one of those two times I’ve been to B.C. in the summer and saw a bear was at that exact bike park). So why are bears so common on the mountain, and why have they been nicknamed “mountain cows”? This video, posted to YouTube by BCpov, does a great job at explaining their abundance, nickname, and why they should be avoided.
