The long-anticipated Pandora’s expansion at Aspen Mountain is finally happening. After the Pitkin County Commissioners approved the plans last November, work officially commenced on the new terrain pod. The Aspen Times reports that crews began to clear trees for the work road and the lift line of the new lift on May 2nd. The trees removed so far are from the lower two-thirds of the lift line, while the upper third will get cleared starting on June 21st. So far, 50% of the logging has been complete, and work will continue on the service road until October.
The tree clearing will take place over the next three summers(2022, 2023, and 2024). The new high-speed quad will be manufactured by Leitner-Poma, which headquarters is situated nearby in Grand Junction. The terrain, which is above 10,000 feet even at its lowest point, will consist of 153 acres of intermediate and advanced trails and glades. The expansion will include extensions of Walsh’s, Kristi’s, and Hyrup. The new lift will be installed in 2023, so it’s possible that the lift could open for the 2023-24 season.
