In spite of a large number of ski resorts in the state of New York, very few of them feature on-mountain accommodations and condos. West Mountain in Queensbury, New York is trying to change that. Called The Woods at West Mountain, the accommodations would give direct access to the slopes, along with being within sixteen minutes of the famous Lake George. According to The Post Star, the following is planned for the village: a ski beach area, an amphitheater, a retail plaza, a parking lot expansion, “46 single-family homes, three buildings holding 18 apartments each, four condominium buildings with 72 units in total, 20 duplex townhouses, a hotel with 60 to 80 rooms, a village center with a pond and an additional 126 apartments.” The lower portion could be completed within the next three to five years. Construction would begin in 2023, but the project will need to be approved by the town of Queensbury before groundbreaking can commence.
In terms of new terrain, a new high-speed six-pack chairlift will serve the village. Based on the map of the lift provided by West Mountain below, the six-pack would climb to the right of the existing terrain, adding new trails to their network. Since they bought the mountain in 2013, the Montgomery family has added three new lifts, extended their snowmaking coverage, renovated the base lodge, revitalized their racing academy, and more.
