“Our mantra is to be better, not bigger, and this investment exemplifies that. Achieving net-zero carbon emissions is the right thing to do for our community, our local environment, and the entire outdoor recreation industry, which is on the frontline of the climate crisis. We’re grateful to the teams at PistenBully and Kässbohrer All-Terrain Vehicles that partnered with us and worked to help us secure this new snowcat.”– David Norden, CEO of Taos Ski Valley
PistenBully is celebrating its 50th birthday in an environmentally conscious way. PR News Wire and Electrek report that Taos Ski Valley just bought a 100E electric groomer from PistenBully. With this purchase, they have become North America’s first ski resort to purchase an all-electric groomer. The new groomer “uses a 126kwh battery and can operate for four hours per charge.” It’s operated by 2 x 90 kW motors and can reach a top speed of 16.7 mph/27 km/h. The groomer reaches a 75% charge within five hours, and 100% within six and a half hours. Taos Ski Valley is planning to add strategic charging points on the mountain to increase its functionality.
They just purchased the groomer, and it is expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2023, with the goal of using it for the end of the 2022-23 ski season. This is the latest effort by the Taos Ski Valley, a certified B Corporation, toward reaching Carbon Neutrality by 2030. You can learn more about the 100E here.
