Killington’s K-1 Lodge Celebrates its Last Day Ever of Operations

Sunday marked the end of an era for Killington Resort. In order to complete the construction of their new K-1 lodge, their old lodge had a closing day/teardown party. Following its closing on Sunday, teardown efforts have begun immediately in order for the new lodge ready for the 2022-23 season. For the K-1 base, the food and restrooms service will transition to Roaring Brook Umbrella Bar for Spring operations. Many old items from the lodge are currently being auctioned off, with the benefits going towards the Ukraine relief efforts. The video of the closing ceremony is below…

After years of delays, the K-1 Lodge will be replaced with a new building that’s 50% bigger than its predecessor. This lodge was originally set to open for the 2020-21 season, but the pandemic and supply chain issues pushed back its opening to the 2022-23 season. Some of the amenities will include an “open floor plan featuring mixed seating arrangements, floor-to-ceiling windows, a grandiose fireplace, and an upscale food court set to offer fresh, farm-to-table cuisine. The project also includes a re-design of the bus turnaround, skier drop-off zone, and the upper parking bays.”

The first floor will feature a ticket office, “guest services, Killington Sports retail shop, rentals, and a free bag check.” The second floor will contain a food court with plentiful seating. The third floor will have a full-service bar with a large food menu and panoramic views of the second floor and adjacent slopes. While I’ll certainly miss the vintage feel of the K-1 Lodge, if the new K-1 is similar to the Peak Lodge, it’s going to be a huge hit.
